Idar-Oberstein has cut and traded coloured stones for centuries. Its workshops, specialist knowledge and international connections make it a remarkable place to work with gemstones.
Gaiety Gems is a brand of AB Exim GmbH. We are gemstone dealers, working alongside the cutters this town is known for. We source, grade and sell from our home here, where every stone passes through our hands before reaching you.

02 / A family businessBuilt stone by stone.
Built stone by stone.
Carried forward together.
Our founder built AB Exim GmbH one stone and one relationship at a time. Today, his two children work alongside him, bringing craftsmanship, design and a new generation of ideas to the business.
The foundation
A founder’s eye for stones, and relationships built over years of buying and selling.
The craft
His son manufactures fine gold and diamond jewellery, connecting the material with the finished piece.
The next chapter
His daughter studied at Babson College in the United States. She leads our website, Etsy and eBay stores, and meets customers through selling and design at trade fairs.

We work with long-standing suppliers and share what we know about origin. Where provenance is uncertain, we say so.
A note on sourcing and provenance
We source worldwide and buy directly wherever we can. We keep documentation on the material we handle and welcome questions about a stone’s origin. Knowing our suppliers helps us understand their material; it does not mean every stone comes with a complete provenance record.
When you buy from us, you are buying from the people who built the business.
